Monumental and Unexpected

The Ostrava-Poruba district is famous for its unique 1950s socialist-realist architecture — in Czech, known as "sorela" — designed as a "model city" of the Soviet era. Ony here, the architecture is combined and zjemněná with touches of Antique, Renaissance, and Classicist styles.

t he arches here are as triumphal as those of Paris, Rome and London, and on the same scale. With the walk down by the man boulevard you can almost feel like walking the famous chamlpelysee.

Poruba's remarkable atmosphere has also attracted international filmmakers. Parts of the American-French film Babylon A.D. starring Vin Diesel were shot here, with the district’s iconic main boulevard serving as the dramatic backdrop for several action scenes.

However, Poruba is much more then „sorela“. Its history is dating back to 13th. You can find, you can find the remail of old origin village in just behind the corner of modern city.

You can find old castle, church, zámecký rybník nebo starý mlýn. Owner of the Poruba used the famous family of Wilczek (uhlobaroni ze slezské ostravy). Their land was rozparcelována after the 2nd world war and used for New Ostrava.

Come and see the two sides of Poruba. They both hides architecture, myths, legends and history that stay with you for a while.
