Easy walk in Výškovice
A new relaxation zone is located near Drůběží Street in Výškovice. The Pod Hurou area is open to the public thanks to the revitalization of the ponds.
The history of pond farming in Výškovice dates back to the mid-16th century. By the initiative of the Olomouc bishop Jan Dubravio, a system of several ponds was built near the Odra river. The largest pond was called Velký výškovický, and there were also Bezděk or Výškovický fojt ponds. The ponds gradually disappeared, especially due to state support for grain cultivation on the areas of former ponds during the reigns of Maria Theresa and Joseph II.
The current Pod Hurou ponds were created after World War II. They were made accessible to the public thanks to revitalization in 2020-2022. Water is supplied to the ponds from the source area of an unnamed watercourse and from a collection facility located on a nearby forest plot.
The fenced leisure area now allows for pleasant sitting and easy walks. The area also includes a children's playground.
