Ostrava is one of the greenest cities of the Czech Republic. This surprising fact can be proved by visiting e.g. the Komenského sady (Komenský Park) in the city centre. The park is a popular leisure time site, suitable for cycling, in-line skating or cross-country skiing in winter. The cycle lane which starts there leads as far as the foothills of the Beskydy Mountains. Walking in the park or along the river is a popular activity for people of all ages. Relaxing zones which have been created as a part of the river revitalization project can be used for relaxing, bathing or having barbecues. The supporting walls on the embankment along the river serve as practice climbing walls. The park continues into a promenade with terraces, bars and pubs which leads over the Miloš Sýkora Bridge to Silesian Ostrava castle, where boat rental is situated as well. There is a beautiful view of the “green heart of Ostrava” from the New Town Hall lookout tower from the height of 73 metres.
