Not every city hall has a tower. Ostrava's New City Hall is unique, because it is the Czech Republic's largest, and it has the highest viewing tower of any city hall in the country – reaching up to a height of 85.6 metres above Prokeš Square (Prokešovo náměstí). From the viewing deck, 73 metres above ground level, you can enjoy 360° views of Ostrava, spectacular panoramas of the Beskydy and Jeseníky mountains, plus parts of neighbouring Poland. Visitors, both from the Czech Republic and abroad, are constantly surprised to discover how many parks and green spaces there are in this former heavy industry metropolis. The tower also offers a wonderful view of Ostrava's rich industrial heritage at the Lower Vítkovice ironworks complex, which has been revitalized and transformed into a vibrant new centre of culture and entertainment.
There is a tourist information centre with a souvenir gift shop and free Wi-Fi access right at the tower. Coin-operated binoculars are available on the viewing deck to give visitors a closer look at the spectacular views.
There is a wheelchair accessible entrance to the right of the main door and from this point our visitors can enjoy a step-free access throughout the attraction and up to the viewing platform via our lifts.
The admission includes a guide who provides an outline on the history as well as the present of the city and recommends interesting places in Ostrava and the whole region which are, and even those which are not, seen from the viewing deck.
