The exhibition presents the work of the German artist Marianne Aue (1932 Bruntál – 2016 Leverkusen), who was one of the prominent, although less well-known figures of the European post-war avant-garde. Aue, associated with the ZERO and New Tendencies movements, made a fundamental contribution to the development of geometric and structural abstraction during her short but intense artistic career in the 1960s. With her monochromatic reliefs, formed by rhythmically constructed linear rod elements protruding from the pictorial surface, she radically crossed the boundaries between painting and sculpture. In them, light and shadow become equal artistic means that draw the viewer into the play of visual transformations and at the same time create a level of meaning. She participated in key European shows of the 1960s (“European Avant-garde”, Frankfurt am Main, 1963 and “New Tendency no. 3”, Zagreb, 1965).
