Ostrava will offer the opportunity to share the atmosphere of the final hockey battles in the center of the city, on the Masaryk Square. The program of the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship 2024 ended in Ostrava with the May 23 Quarterfinals and afterwards, the fan zone near the Ostrava Arena also came to an end. The fans would thus lose the opportunity to watch the most important sports competition of the championship and the opportunity to jointly support the hockey team of the Czech Republic, which advanced to the semi-final battles. A large, 9x5 metres screen, will be erected on the Masaryk square and on the weekend of 25 and 26 May, people will be able to watch the semifinal and final matches and cheer for their favourite team together. The first semi-final will start on May 25, 2024 at 2:20 p.m. The second will start on the same day at 6:20 p.m. The final and the 3rd place match will then be decided on Sunday, May 26 in matches starting at 3:20 p.m. and 8:20 p.m.
"The IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship 2024 is one of the most watched events in the city and the region in recent years. Fans across the country and abroad have their eyes fixed on Ostrava. People really enjoy the hockey atmosphere in the city, that's why we want to offer them the opportunity to jointly support our national team during the final races," explained the mayor of Ostrava, Jan Dohnal.
Following an agreement with the organizers of the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, four matches will be broadcast via the Česká televize national broadcast company. However, the city will not, according to the conditions of the championship organizers, sell refreshments at the projection site.
