The international festival of contemporary dance, physical theater and the new circus MOVE Fest Ostrava invites all lovers of movement and performance art for the 11th edition of the festival, which will take place in Ostrava from September 25 to 29.
The halls of Ostrava's theaters and non-traditional outdoor spaces will be set in motion by movement projects from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Sweden and Canada. The festival will offer a series of six Czech and international movement performances across genres, one outdoor performative project, one composed evening of student choreography and a rich accompanying program in the form of dance films, movement workshops, discussions and activities.
This year, the festival focuses on the theme of "abandonment", which is perceived as an inspiration for new beginnings. The main attractions are breathtaking performances by the Swedish neo-circus ensemble Les, performed in handstands, or the duet Where by the Thalia award-winning dancer Helena Arenbergerová and Václav Kuneš.
The festival program will take place in various Ostrava cultural institutions, such as DK Poklad, the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ostrava, Barrák Music Club or Studio G.
"This year we will explore the phenomenon of letting go, and I believe that together we will discover its deep potential to inspire the creation of space for the arrival of the new. With the headliner of the festival, the Swedish neo-circus troupe Right Way Down, we will look at abandonment as a direction of moving forward and towards the future. The Where duet of the nestors of the Czech dance scene, Thalia-awarded Helena Arenbergerová and Václav Kuneš, will present abandonment as a symbol of opening a new chapter," says the director of the MOVE fest Jana Ryšlavá.
"Abandonment is also a manifestation of the courage to cross borders and go into the unknown, which the Slovak Dance troupe undoubtedly demonstrated in its production YOLT - You Live Only Twice. Last but not least, Vnorena Livia Mendez Balážová and I will accept leaving not only as an act of physical departure, but also of mental release, which allows us to open up to new opportunities and beginnings," adds Ryšlavá.
