Sounds of Diversity at Ostrava University

Publikováno: 28.2.2025

The international project Sounds of Diversity offers the audience the opportunity to listen to the real sounds of diversity, thanks to the connection of contemporary classical music with movement and light design. Led by Brno director Martin Modrý and Polish conductor Szymon Bywalece, the Sounds of Diversity will bring premieres of four compositions by renowned composers from the Visegrad Four countries as part of this concert mini-tour and there will be a trio of dancers led by Jana Ryšlavá enveloped in the atmosphere of light design by Piotr Ceglarek.

The concerts will take place on March 5 in Ostrava, March 6 in Katowice and in the autumn of this year in Žilina and Budapest. Each of the 16 musicians of the Sounds of Diversity Ensemble and each of the trio of dancers will perform in their native country and at the same time represent it in a trio of neighboring countries - countries that have common roots, history and parts of culture,” invites the project director Marcela Kysová. “Come listen to the dialogue between tradition and the present, between sound and movement, between space and light. Sounds of Diversity together with MOVE Ostrava invite you to a multi-genre cultural experience that will connect artists and audiences from four countries in a moment of shared wellbeing,” she adds.

Each of the four premiered compositions will offer the audience a unique concept revealing new dimensions of this year’s theme – wellbeing.

The only woman among this year’s authors is Petra Šuško, a composer and music director originally from Ostrava. In the composition The Sixth Sense, she reflects on the intuition that each of us has and that unerringly accompanies us throughout our lives. She was inspired by quotes from famous thinkers about sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste, which gradually lead to the climax – intuition as the highest form of knowledge.

The Sixth Sense thus encourages listeners to reflect on how each of us perceives our inner voice – is it a quiet whisper, a dramatic pulsation or an unexpected harmony?

Planned concerts:

March 5, 2025, 7:00 PM – Concert Hall of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ostrava, City Campus Ostrava

March 6, 2025, 7:00 PM – Akademia Muzyczna im. K. Szymanowskieho, Katowice
