Sting in great shape
A place where you have to be. This is how the 22nd edition of the popular festival presents itself, which crosses genre boundaries and connects art in all its forms. The main stages this year will be led by performers who will be coming to Ostrava for the first time, but several artists will also return at the request of fans. Sting will present his current concert lineup with Dominic Miller and Chris Maas, which means that the bass lines stand out even more, as journalist Daniel Konrád wrote in a review of the Pilsen concert last year: “He sings some of The Police's hits with his tenor voice practically as high as in 1978. His technique and fitness are still excellent.”
Punk legend Iggy
Iggy Pop will return to the festival after fifteen years. Visitors of his recent concerts say that the punk legend is in the best shape in years. The guitar genre will also be represented by Snow Patrol, for who this is their first visit to the Czech Republic. FINNEAS, Billie Eilish's brother, will also have his premiere in front of the local audience. He will bring his last year's album For Cryin' Out Loud! with his band, and Artemas, the author of one of the most listened to hits of 2024, promises an energy-packed show.
Dance styles will be represented by the Sofi Tukker duo, who canceled their participation last year due to illness, DPR Ian, who uses elements of K-pop in his work, or Justice, who are the best live band in the world according to the British The Telegraph. The final party of the upcoming year will belong to The Chainsmokers, who will play in Europe only six times this summer.
Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra Ostrava
A unique performance is prepared for visitors on the main stage on Friday, July 18. Known melodies from the films Parasite, Mickey 17 or the TV series hit Squidward Tentacles will echo through the area. Music composer Jung Jaeil, accompanied by his South Korean colleagues and the 60-member Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra of Ostrava, is preparing a unique performance that, thanks to the Fluks graphic studio, will amaze not only with their music but also with the visual element. "I'm happy that we will be able to get so many Asian performers to the festival this year. In addition to Jung Jaeil, indie rocker Lee Seung Yoon, electronic duo Hypnosis Therapy and Fat Hamster And KANG New, will also be coming in from South Korea. We also have representatives of indigenous tribes from Taiwan and China in the line-up, the opposite pole is the Japanese DJ ¥ØU$UK€ ¥UK1MAT$U, whose Boiler Room recording has broken YouTube counters," says dramaturg Filip Koštálek about the program.
Domestic scene
The domestic scene will include well known names, such as Ben Cristovao and Calin, but also leaders of the alternative scene such as Berlin Manson, Mat213, Saul and Erika Rein. Festival classics include J.A.R. or Jana Kirschner; Bez ladu a skladu will be performing at the festival for the first time and Vladimir 518 and 7krát3 or Jiří Burian, this time performing as Kairos Kid, will present their latest releases. A fresh addition to the line-up is the winner of the Startér Radio Wave competition, the group Meluzína.
Meltingpot and theatres
Colours of Ostrava program includes over a hundred performers, with several names to be added. Similarly, the program of the Meltingpot discussion forum, a unique part of the festival, is being established during May, thanks to which visitors can draw inspiration from lectures and debates with leading figures in the field of regional medicine, health, healthy lifestyle, biohacking, but also travel, literature, journalism or philosophy and science, within the framework of one ticket. The program is often conducted in English, two scenes will even use a subtitle application translating the events on stage.
The festival also offers a rich program with theaters, screenings and creative workshops over four days, where children, seniors and people with disabilities will also have fun. Selected performances are interpreted into sign language for visitors, experts will take care of people with autism spectrum disorders, and trained workers will also offer help with psychological problems. The festival has been trying to break down barriers and be open to everyone for several years. This year, after more than a decade, with a new visual.
