The new city hall in Ostrava will open for the public on the Czech Statehood day

On the occasion of Czech Statehood Day, the statutory city of Ostrava invites the public to the traditional Open House Day, which will take place on Saturday, September 28, 2025 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the New City Hall and the adjacent Prokeš Square. The event will be carried out in the retro spirit of the post-war years and will be a symbolic closure of the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Ostrava.

Visitors can look forward to guided tours of the historic building, including the mayor's office. Tours are free, but prior online registration is required. As with previous Open Days, this year there will also be a free opportunity to go up the tower of the New City Hall - the highest town hall tower in the Czech Republic - and enjoy unique views of Ostrava and the surrounding countryside from the viewing platform.

The foyer of the Town Hall will be enlivened by a fashion show of period models from the First Republic to the 1950s, complemented by an exhibition of the old post office and the post-war army recruitment commission.

A cultural program will be prepared on Prokeš Square with a musical performance by DJ Zeppelin accompanied by a saxophonist, a historical café, a mysterious maze and a demonstration of period bicycles, including the opportunity to try riding a high bike. The atmosphere will be completed by an army jeep with gendarmes in historical uniforms and art activities for children prepared by leisure centers. The program will also include a presentation of the pro-family campaign "Give Children a Family" and refreshment stands.

An impressive highlight of the Open Day program will be the official presentation of the new lighting of the New Town Hall. The general public will be able to see it with their own eyes from 7 p.m. This spectacle is definitely worth waiting for. All prepared color combinations will always be lit for 30 seconds, in a time loop that will run twice in a row.
