Published: 27.9.2025

The Moravian-Silesian Region welcomed more than a million tourists last year. The number of visitors has thus reached pre-Covid numbers. Of the total number of visitors, 80% were residents and 20% were foreign travelers. In a nationwide comparison, our region is the eighth most visited. The support, especially foreign, of this region is significantly helped by the largest incoming event in the Czech Republic – Czechia Travel Trade Day 2025, which has just started in Ostrava. It is organized by the Czech Tourism Board – CzechTourism in cooperation with the Moravian-Silesian Region, the city of Ostrava, the North Moravia destination and the Ostrava tourist area.

Czechia Travel Trade Day, or TTD, is one of the largest domestic events to support incoming tourism. The CzechTourism agency organizes it in cooperation with partners from among representatives of regions, cities, destination managements and other entities operating in the field of tourism. The aim is to promote many of the tourist areas that the Czech Republic has to offer in the regions and contribute to the development of inbound tourism. TTD is designed as a two-day event full of pre-arranged meetings and working sessions, during which representatives of foreign travel agencies meet with Czech entrepreneurs in the tourism industry. It also includes sightseeing tours of the host region. This time it shows the tourist potential of the Moravian-Silesian Region.

“Almost seventy representatives of travel agencies, buyers and tour operators from all over the world and more than two hundred professionals from the Czech Republic came to Ostrava. 15 foreign journalists from European and even distant countries, such as the USA or South Korea, are also taking part in the study tours of the region and the subsequent two-day events. Together, they visited important tourist destinations in the Moravian-Silesian Region and established important business contacts. They saw with their own eyes that this is a unique and specific region. A region where the beautiful nature of the Beskydy and Jeseníky Mountains combines with remarkable technical monuments that are among the biggest drivers of tourism in northern Moravia and in the Czech Republic in general,” summarizes František Reismüller, director of the Czech Tourism Board – CzechTourism. “Based on the impressions obtained in this way, they can then much better convey information to clients and motivate them to visit the country. TTD-type events confirm in practice that this method of communication is the right one. way. I believe that this year's TTD will significantly help, among other things, the areas affected by last year's September flood” he added.

The Moravian-Silesian Region offers not only a rich industrial history, but also beautiful nature, folklore and modern experiences. And personal experience is the key to people really getting to know the attractiveness of our region. That is why we are very happy that as part of the Czechia Travel Trade Day we can introduce our region to tourism experts and the media through business meetings and, above all, carefully prepared sightseeing tours. We believe that thanks to this, our region will appear in the itineraries of many travel agencies abroad,” says Šárka Šimoňáková, 1st Deputy Governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region, adding that it is positive to observe the trend of increasing visitor numbers in the region.

The event is held, among other things, with the financial support of the City of Ostrava.
