The 25th annual ProTibet Festival will take place in Ostrava from March 1 to March 18. During the festival, visitors will meet journalist Tomáš Etzler, actor Vladimír Polák, Buddhist scholar Luboš Bělka, and singer Terez Wrau. There will be discussions and concerts at the Poklad Cultural Center in Poruba, the Pant Center, or the Minikinokavárna in the city center.
“We always organize the festival in March, when we annually commemorate the bloody suppression of the uprising in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. The Tibetan uprising against Chinese occupation began on March 10, 1959, and more than 80,000 Tibetans paid for the rebellion with their lives. His Holiness the Dalai Lama was forced to flee to Indian exile,” says Jana Ďásková, director of the Ostrava association MOST ProTibet ('Bridge for Tibet), which has been organizing aid for Tibetan communities for 25 years, on behalf of the organizers.
“For twenty-five years, we have been building bridges between cultures and people. Come and find out what has changed, what has remained, and why the Tibetan issue still resonates. The ProTibet festival will take you on a journey full of stories, humor, and thought-provoking ideas,” invites Jana Ďásková, adding what festival visitors can specifically look forward to.
