The colony in Ostrava-Hrabůvka was built in honour of the centenary of the Vítkovice Mines and Iron Works in the years 1921-1932. The author of the project, the Ostrava architect Ernst Korner, used the influence of expressionism and decorativism of Viennese provenance in this work. It was a housing estate of 605 apartments in one-storey and two-storey houses. The core of the urban composition is Jubilejní Street, which is followed by short street links. The closedness and compactness of the whole area are strengthened by symbolic motifs of passages on the ground floors of houses, house entrances in tower avant-corps and many other characteristic details. The Jubilee Colony is becoming an attractive address after the reconstruction, which is still underway at some houses. The mentioned housing estate is included in the protection monument zone and 23 selected houses were declared a cultural monument by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
