Sights and Architecture

It is the seat of the Silesian Ostrava Municipal District Office. Corner three-storey building with a square tower from 1911-13 designed by Viktor Šulc, Jaroslav Volence and František Doležal. The front facade is finished with a pseudo-Renaissance gable with a balustrade, the portal is decorated with Ionic columns and the facade is richly decorated with stucco. The building is a clear proof of urban architecture with the original interior. From the city hall tower, the voice of bells ringing the exact time is simulated. At 9:00 and 10:00 the song "Vstavaj, Jano, hore" ("Get up, Jano, up") sounds, at 12:00 the Silesian anthem and at 17:00 and 18:00 the day ends with the song "Již v dáli zvon tiše zaznívá" ("The bell rings softly in the distance").
