The locals will not call the residential block in Porubská Street in Ostrava-Poruba other than Věžičky (Little Towers). Looking at the building, it is immediately clear why. The construction of the building took place in the first half of the 1950s as part of the construction of the so-called "New Ostrava". The work of architect Boris Jelčaninov combines elements of socialist realism as well as the Czech Renaissance and Neo-Renaissance, when the already non-existent house "U Lhotků" in Vodičkova Street in Prague served as a model. The author of the sgraffito decoration in the gable and under the ledge of one part of the building is Ladislav Novák, who depicted here children playing, individual seasons of the year and various professions. Nearby is the equally famous and iconic house “Oblouk” (“Arch“).
